“I’m beautiful
Molding my own world
the old me is behind
I will march ahead anew”
Taken from a longer self-motivational note written by Michael Jackson in 1991 at Pebble Beach. You could consider it a tribute tattoo, but I don’t really think of it that way (which is why I chose not to include his initials at the bottom).
I - just like almost everyone - struggle on an almost daily basis with accepting myself as I am, physically and otherwise, and have since I was much younger than I am today. The same goes for motivating myself to make things in my life change. I was struck hard by the vulnerability in this note when I first read it, and couldn’t get it out of my mind for months afterward. I was also comforted by seeing such a familiar desire for the ability to push yourself forward and accept the beauty in yourself as you are, coming from a lifelong hero of mine. So this can serve as both a daily reminder and a comfort to me at once. Hurt like hell to get, but totally worth it.
Work by the wonderful Paula Hathaway at Big Fish Tattoo in Solana Beach, CA. I couldn’t recommend the place highly enough if you’re in the area.
reinvention is ascension… well sometimes.
this is actually the best quote i’ve seen on that part of the body.
